Vertical Antennas

  1. No one here runs a vert. Well I guess I'll post up my setup. I run a sirio tornado at 20ft to the base currently tuned at 27.385 with an mfj meter. I use Andrew lmr 400 coax and amphenol connectors. A 1:1 balun has been added at about 9ft or so from feed point. Also coming soon. A polyphaser surge arrestor. Just waiting on new discharge tubes of larger voltage. All I have currently is 90vac ones and they don't handle much power out. My antenna and mast pipe are grounded with #2awg solid grounding wire. One all the way from base of antenna to ground and one at bottom of mast. I have a total of 5 ground rods. 3 10ft by 1/2" and 2 8ft by 5/8". I have also added 3 rafials underground about 6-8" that go out from tower approx 9-10ft. each like a birds foot. I also have #2awg solid from ground rod to the AC METER box conduit and also one going to a water pipe. I have my radio and all equipment grounded ad well with #10awg solid wire to some #8awg to the radio. All ground rods are tied together to form a single point grounding system.Does all this help, idk, but living in the Lightning capital of the US, grounding is a must. Now my next venture is to increase the height of my antenna without drawing attention of the nosey neighbors and then get a visit from the city code enforcement!!! Anyway this is my vert. antenna setup. Nothing special. Next antenna I think will be the new shockwave antennas being made in the US. They seem to be very well built. That or a sirio 2016. For now I need to get some more height from my current setup!! Good day all
